How to Reapply for a PAN Card If Lost?

Losing an important document like a PAN card can be an inconvenience that you need a quick solution.

A PAN card is a crucial identification document issued by the Income Tax Department of India, serving as a vital tool for various financial transactions.

In the unfortunate event of its loss, the need to promptly reapply for a new PAN card becomes paramount.

It is important to note that you need to file an FIR with the local police to start reapplying for the PAN Card. After FIR, you can start the process of getting your PAN document back. In this article, we will discuss how to reapply for a PAN Card if lost, documents required, etc.

How to Apply for Duplicate PAN Card Online?

The following are the steps that you are required to follow to apply for a duplicate PAN Card online-

• Visit the official website of the Income Tax Department of India dedicated to PAN services i.e., NSDL or UTIITSL
• Now, Choose the ‘Reprint of PAN card’ option as you are applying for a duplicate card
• After clicking on the Reprint of PAN Card, you’ll have to fill out the field with details like PAN Card, Aadhaar card, Month of birth, etc.
•  Upload the required documents such as proof of identity, address, and date of birth, along with a copy of the FIR if applicable for a lost PAN card
• Now, Pay the applicable fee for the duplicate PAN card through online payment modes available on the portal
• An OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number which you’ll have to enter
• After entering the OTP, your application will be submitted and you’ll receive the dup-plicate PAN card dispatched to your registered address

How to Apply for a Duplicate PAN Card Offline?

The following are the steps that you are required to follow to apply for a duplicate PAN Card offline-

• Download Form 49A (for individuals) or Form 49AA (for foreign nationals) from the official Income Tax Department website
• Now, fill in the required details accurately in BLOCK LETTERS using black ink with details like name, PAN card number, Aadhaar card, etc.
• After filling out the application form, you’ll have to attach the supporting documents including proof of identity, address, date of birth, and a copy of the FIR for a lost PAN card.
• Submit the completed form along with the supporting documents to the nearest UTIITSL or NSDL office or by Post
• You’ll have to pay for the duplication PAN card as well which you can do by online payment, or Demand Draft, etc.
• Your duplicate PAN card will be processed and dispatched to your registered address

Documents Required for Duplicate PAN Card

The following are the documents required for a Duplicate PAN card-

• Identity Proof- Aadhaar Card, driver’s license, voter ID, etc.
• Address Proof- Aadhaar, bank account statements, utility bills, etc.
• Document mentioning the date of your birth such as Passport, matriculation certificate, certificate of birth, etc.
• PAN allotment letter or a self-attested copy of PAN Card
• FIR for Lost PAN Card

Apart from a Duplicate PAN Card, you can also get an ePAN card which is nothing but an online version of your PAN Card. You can use it anywhere for application filling, and other purposes.
