The Income Tax Act, 1961, clearly says that any income other than salary which is over Rs.30,000/- is liable for TDS deduction until and unless it is exempted.

You’ll receive Form 16A whenever a tax deduction has been made showing the payment of the tax at income source. This document becomes very important especially while filling out your Income Tax Returns.

You’ll receive the TDS certificate whenever you generate any income from other sources like investment, stocks, shares, FD Account, insurance amount, etc. The TDS certificate is issued on the 15th of each quarter, followed by the due date for quarterly TDS returns.

How to Fill in Form 16A?

You can follow these steps to fill out the Form 16A-

  • Download the Form 16A from the official website of the Income Tax followed by filling out the form
  • You’ll have to enter the name of the deductor followed by an address, the Deductor’s TAN number, and the PAN Card Number of the deductor as well
  • Mention the Form of remuneration next, whether contractual, professional, or otherwise
  • Now, enter the codes of the corresponding payment listed along with the name of the deductee
  • Mention the PAN Number of the deductee in the PAN no field
  • Finally, you’ll have to enter the TDS tax deduction followed by entering the TDS amount

How to Download Form 16A?

To download Form 16A, you’ll first need to fill the Form 26Q as they both are connected. After filling out the form 26Q, you can follow these steps to download the Form 16A-

  • Visit the Income-tax Department website and login into the TRACES portal using your login credentials
  • After logging in, navigate to the download tab and select form 16A from the option followed by entering the details required in various fields
  • Now, click on the go button and your Form 16A will be easily downloaded.

How to Verify Form 16A Online?

You can verify your Form 16A online using the TRACES portal. TRACES stands for TDS Reconciliation Analysis and Correction Enablement System, which shows all the deductions made.

Verification of Form 16A is important for you as it ensures there is no mismatch of the taxation information while filling out the ITR.

In case, you find any mismatch of information, you’ll have to check out all the fields to find where the mismatch is and then contact that particular institution or entity and find a resolution there.

Form 26Q is for the TDS deduction for non-salary payments and it is provided every time every payment is received which is non-salary in nature.

When can I file my quarterly TDS return?

You’ll have to file for the TDS return every quarter, specifically the 15th of the month as the last date. In a financial year, there are four quarters which are April to June, July to September, October to December, and January to March. You can file the TDS return on the official website of the Income Tax Department.

Should I provide Form 16A to my employee wherein my TDS has never been deducted?

No, you do not need to provide your employee with any TDS certificate if there are no deductions made.
