How to Check VISA Status?

If the destination country does not fall on any of the above, then you’ll have to apply for the VISA from the official website of the embassy present in the country.

One applicant will be provided a tracking number which can be used to check the status of the VISA. You have an option to check the VISA status both online and  offline, which is as follows-

Online

To check the VISA status of the application, you can follow these steps-

  • The very first step is to visit the official website of the country of visit’s embassy in your country. Your country hosts the embassies of various countries which can be used to check the status of your VISA. For example- the German Embassy in India is hosted by India for French interests in India.
  • After that, you’ll have to find the portal where you can track the VISA application
  • After visiting the portal, you’ll have to enter the VISA Application Number in the portal
  • At the time of completion of the VISA application, you’ll be issued with an application number
  • You’ll have to enter that in the portal followed by selecting the application type then, passport number/reference number
  • Now, solve the captcha followed by clicking on the submit button
  • After clicking on the submit button, your VISA application will be submitted and you’ll be able to find your application status

Offline (From the Embassy or Consulate)

Alternatively, instead of an online application, you can also check for your VISA application by visiting the embassy of your country and writing an email/contacting via phone.

Application Status Codes

Your VISA application will have various response codes which you’ll have to take action upon. The following are some of the application status codes that you’ll find on your VISA application status portal while checking the status-

Approved

Approved is a good sign that your application is approved and you are legally allowed to travel to the country. At this point, you are required to pack your bags and book your flight tickets to travel to the country.

Rejected

If your application is rejected then you’ll have to reapply for the VISA. You’ll also be provided with the reason for the rejection which you can use to improve your VISA application to reapply.

Pending

If this status shows you’ll have to wait as the VISA office is still in verification and processing your visa application. You’ll have to check for the VISA status after a few days.

Expired

This status code shows that the visa that you’ve applied for has expired.

For the visa to get approved it may take a few days to a few weeks depending on the country of the application. If the processing of your VISA is fast then you’ll be issued with visa fast.

If my VISA is rejected does my application fee is refunded?

No, the application fee that you pay during the VISA does not get refunded. It is an administrative fee that every applicant has to pay.
