*Allahabad was renamed as Prayagraj in November 2018.*Faizabad was renamed Ayodhya in November 2018.

*Lepa Rada, Pakke Kessang and Shi Yomi districts of Arunachal Pradesh were created in 2018.

* Niwari district in M.P. was carved out of the Tikamgarh district in October 2018.

*Kallakurichi became 33th district of Tamil Nadu state in January 2019.

*Narayanpetand Mulugu were announced full districts on 17th Feb 2019 carved out of Mahabubnagar and Jayashankar Bhupalpally districts respectively.

*Jammu and Kashmir bifurcated into two new union territories as Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh on 31st October 2019. R K Mathur was appointed as Lieutenant Governors of Ladakh and Girish Chandra Murmu of Jammu and Kashmir.

*Visakhapatnam could be bifurcated into two districts as per election promise in May 2019 by Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, party chief of YSR Congress.

*Tamil Nadu announced of two new districts as Ranipet and Tirupattur in August 2019, being carved out of Vellore district.

*Tenkasi district of Tamil Nadu which was announced to be a new district carved from Kancheepuram in July 2019 has been officially inaugurated by Tamil Nadu C.M. Edappadi K Palaniswami on 22nd November 2019.

* Tirupattur and Ranipet district were officially inaugurated by Tamil Nadu CM Edappadi K Palaniswami on 28th November 2019.

*Chengalpattu was announced to be new district in July 2019 of Tamil Nadu state. Chengalpattu is being carved out of Tirunelveli district. On 29th November 2019, Tamil Nadu C.M. Edappadi K Palaniswami officially inaugurated new district Chengalpattu.

*Gaurela Pendra Marwahi has been announced to be 28th district of Chhattisgarh state as announced by C.-M. Bhupesh Baghel on 15th August 2019.

*Mayiladuthurai was announced 38th district of Tamilnadu on 7th April 2020. It was formally inaugurated as the 38th district of Tamil Nadu on 28th December 2020.

*Maihar district was announced to be new districts in Madhya Pradesh in March 2020.

*Pandhurna announced to be new district in Madhya Pradesh in August 2024.

*Karnataka added its 31st district Vijayanagara. The district is named after capital of the historic Vijayanagara Empire.

*Malerkotla was declared as the new district of Punjab on May 14th 2021.

*”Dadra and Nagar Haveli” and “Daman and Diu” which were separate union territories earlier are now merged together.

* Mairang, which was proposed to become 12th district of Meghalaya, has been approved in Nov 2021.

* Manendragarh, Mohla Manpur, Sarangarh Bilaigarh, Sakti are new districts added in Chhattisgarh state.

* Chumukedima, Niuland, Tseminyu are the three new districts Nagaland Added in December 2021.

* Pakyong and soreng added to Sikkim making its district total to 6.

* 13 new district added in Andhra Pradesh.

Tamil Nadu may soon have a new district named Arni. It will be carved out of Tiruvannamalai district, as promised by C. M. Palaniswami.
