What is Banking Ombudsman? | How to File a Complaint

Customer of a bank may come across an issue that requires bank to solve it but when bank fails to solve issue of the person then the Bank Ombudsman is contacted. Banking Ombudsman is an independent entity appointed by the Reserve Bank of India to ensure that all the complaint to the bank is solved. The complaint can be regarding any services by the bank or any type of complaint related to the banking and its services.

How Banking Ombudsman Works?

Banking Ombudsman works on the complaint by the customer of the banks. The complaint is handled in different level the very basic level or the first level is bank complaint followed by Regional office complaint and then Zonal Office, at this point if your complaint still persists then you can contact the home branch which is last as per the bank is concerned.

After the bank level, you can contact the Bank Ombudsman of your region and file a complaint regarding the bank service by mentioning the A/C number and other details etc. Usually, it takes 30 Days to solve an issue by the bank if the 30 day period is reached and still your problem is not addressed you can directly reach the Bank Ombudsman.

When to Register the Complaint with Bank Ombudsman?

Reaching out to a Bank Ombudsman is very easy and requires you to fill a form but before getting your complaint to this level it is important for you to lodge a formal complaint with the bank also registering your complaint within one year is necessary.

How to Register Complaint with Banking Ombudsman?

To register a complaint with the Bank Ombudsman you need to follow the following steps-

  • Visit the official website of RBI Banking Ombudsman complaint
  • Two questions will be asked-
    1. Have you made a written complaint to the bank? Y/N
    2. If Yes, Whether 30 days are over forms the lodgement of complaint to the bank or not satisfied with Bank’s reply? Y/N
  • On answering the above question as Yes then you will be redirected to the complaint form filling step-1 where you have to mention the following details
    1. Bank name
    2. Account Number
    3. Compliant Name
    4. Mobile Number
  • After filing the details you will be redirected to the complaint form filling step-2, where you have to fill from also you can have a legal representative who can fill the form in behalf of you.
  • Click on save followed by Document upload, evidence, and bank reply documents.
  • Your issue will be resolved within 30 days of the complaint and Banking Ombudsman can contact you.
