How to File a Complaint Against a Bank?

The bank is an essential element in everyone’s life which helps us in managing our finances by using various services of the bank.

From Loans to depositing money, you can avail of a lot of services from the bank. While availing of these services, you may face some issues related to the bank.

The problem is generally solved by the banks however, in some cases your issue can persist for a longer time for any reason.

In that case, RBI has established a few systems which help the customers in dealing with the issue and resolve them easily.

How to File a Complaint against a Bank?

You can file your complaint using the following methods-

Register your Complaint with Bank

First, you’ll have to register whatever complaint you have with the bank to ensure that you give the bank a chance to correct it from their side.

If the problem persists, you can escalate the matter to the bank’s internal ombudsman. Ombudsman is an officer that looks at the grievances of the bank at the state level or in banking terms particular circle.

Wherever your bank is centered, the banking ombudsman of that particular circle will try to resolve your matters.

Either you can visit the banking ombudsman’s office or you can simply visit the online portal of the bank and file your complaint there which in turn will go to the internal ombudsman itself.

You can find the details of the internal ombudsman from your brand or you can find that by making a Google search.

You’ll also find the address, phone number, and email ID of the internal ombudsman on the official website of the Bank.  

Register your Complaint with RBI

The Reserve Bank of India is the central bank that makes policy for the banking sector. It also regulates the banking sector in making key decisions.

RBI also provides a consumer protection scheme known as the RBI ombudsman scheme which is a scheme that provides account holders of any bank to file a complaint with the RBI.

The RBI also has an ombudsman officer who deals with the complaint filed by the account holder. You can file complaints using both online and offline methods.

The following are the step-by-step instruction to file the complaint online with the RBI ombudsman-

• Visit the official website of the Complaint Management System of the RBI or click on this link-https://cms.rbi.org.in/cms/indexpage.html#eng
• You’ll now have to enter the captcha followed by entering your name and mobile number
• An OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number which you’ll have to enter
• After that, a form will appear which you’ll have to fill in with details like name, address, email, branch details, etc.
• In the process of filling in the data, you’ll be asked yes or no questions which you’ll have to answer with yes or no
• Now, click on the next button and a disclaimer form will appear which you’ll have to agree on
• After that, click on the submit button, your complaint will be filed and further communication will be made from the ombudsman
• You’ll also receive a complaint tracking ID which you can use to track your complaint
