If you are an employee of a firm and has a PF account then you must require the UAN or Universal Account Number to access your account. EPF is the account where both employee and employer contribution to the retirement fund of the employee. This savings can be very important as at the time of retirement the fund required to sustain life and meet the basic necessities can be met by using the savings made when young.
What Is Universal Account Number (UAN)?
Universal Account Number is a 12-digit number that is provided by the Employee Provident fund Organization (EPFO), these UAN numbers are allotted to keep the access of the fund record transparent and easy to track. With using the UAN you can access your PF Account easily without requiring the employer and can use the services like withdrawal, checking balance, etc.
Where to find the UAN Number?
In order to activate and login using the UAN Number, you require to have the UAN number which can be found by tow methods-
From Employer
You can find your UAN Number in the salary slip provided by the employer or you can simply ask for the details of UAN Number.
From online
If in case you do not get the UAN Number from the Employer then you can use the UAN Portal to find the UAN Number. Follow these steps to find the UAN Number online-
- Go to the UAN Portal using this link
- Click on the Know your UAN status
- Fill the form using the appropriate details like name, member id, phone number etc.
- You will receive a PIN in the Mobile phone as an OTP message
- Fill the OTP in the respective field and click on the “Validate OTP and get UAN” button
- You will receive an SMS containing your UAN details.
Follow These Steps to Activate the Universal Account Number Online
After receiving the UAN Number you need to activate the UAN Number which can be done by using the following steps-
- Go to the EPFO website using this link
- Click on the “Our Services” followed by the “For Employees”
- Click on ‘Member UAN/Online services’ in the services section
- Click on the “Activate UAN” link
- A new window will appear you have to fill the required details like UAN, Name, Date of Birth, Mobile Number and fill the Captcha
- After filling and verifying the details click on the “Generate Authorization PIN” tab
- An OTP will be sent to your number, fill the OTP in the required field followed by checking the I Agree term and click on ‘Validate OTP and Activate UAN’.
- On successful UAN activation, you will receive a password on your registered mobile number to access your account.
Note- You can change the password after logging in to the UAN Portal with Universal Account Number as id and the password you receive on your mobile number.
